Tyyler and Melissa's journey

Our Journey - The Story Behind RSO4ALL

Our Story

My name is Tyyler Burrett, and my wife Melissa and I officially created PSYMBIOSYS in 2018. We started by selling hemp seed grow kits, handmade seed packets, and tea blends at a farmers market in Oroville, California.

I’m a third-generation plant healer. My grandfather, Michael Ommaha, was a plant pioneer and cannabis activist who brought and popularized many vegetable and plant varieties in the U.S., including Mesclun salad and select cherry tomato varieties. He founded one of California’s first dispensaries and faced decades of legal challenges just for promoting plant-based wellness. His innovations in cannabis and plant hybrid products continue to inspire the industry today.

My father shares that same passion for plants and healing. He worked hard from a young age, building businesses, and eventually found his way back to what he loved most: cannabis and plant medicine. Together with my stepmother, he co-founded a dispensary and lifestyle brand called "The Medicine Woman," now partnered with ICE-T and with locations on both coasts.

Growing up around these legendary figures, I was exposed to plant medicine my whole life. I had a front-row seat watching them build their empires. But my path took a different direction at 17, when I left home to study sound engineering and eventually entered the music business. I started a blog and record label, toured, promoted artists, and taught music marketing in Los Angeles. I had a platform, I influenced taste, and I mentored artists who are now very popular.

Then I met Melissa, and my world changed. Suddenly, I wasn't thinking about what I could accomplish for myself; I was thinking about what I could do for others. Around this time, my grandfather, recently released from prison and in declining health, took me up to Northern California and snuck me into the Emerald Cup. Up until that moment, I had never truly known him. That trip cemented my passion and my birthright for plant-based healing. He told me I had to choose whether to live for myself or serve others — and I chose to serve.

Melissa was the final blessing that allowed me to pursue this path. About six months into our relationship, her grandmother passed away, and it was time for her to move with her family to their farm in Northern California. I had a choice: stay in my old life or take a leap of faith and start fresh with her. I chose the latter.

We left Hollywood and Riverside to start a new life far from the cities, learning about plants and helping people. Melissa's lifelong knowledge of plants, her love for nature, and her experience with infusions became the foundation of PSYMBIOSYS. She conceptualized our apothecary, developed many early products, and inspired me to begin my own learning journey.

We started our apothecary using native and medicinal plants we foraged and grew at home. My grandfather even drove three hours to attend our first farmers market in 2018 as if he knew our path would fall in line with destiny.

Everything changed when a close family member living with us was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We began working with Melissa's mother at local cannabis farmers markets and met growers who shared their knowledge and donated excess materials. That's how the first batch of PSYMBIOSYS RSO was made. We saw positive results, and we began giving our plant medicine freely at farmers markets and online. People were taken aback by our knowledge and desire to do good, and it set the course for everything we do today.

Entering the cannabis healing space, we assumed everyone had good intentions. We quickly learned that wasn't the case. We faced predatory practitioners who tried to strong-arm us and threaten our families. We refused to play by their rules, and in standing up with a like-minded practitioner, we forged our own path. That's how RSO FOR ALL was born.

In 2020, the Bear Fire destroyed our town, our home, our gardens, our apothecary, and our laboratory. We lost everything, including a thriving gem and crystal business. Berry Creek, once home to thousands, was devastated. But through the support of our community, we rebuilt, combining our most popular products into a manageable lineup that could help a wide range of people, and stayed true to our mission: Herbal Wealth and Health for All.

We continue to provide nonprofit support, community outreach, back-to-school events, holiday toy drives, seed and product giveaways, and education. My grandfather's mantra, "Give Plants a Chance," lives on in everything we do. I even have it tattooed on my wrist with his ashes mixed into the ink, a daily reminder of his legacy and our mission.

This is the beginning of the organic movement, and you're a part of it. We live by the words: Be the light you wish to see… Go beyond!

Now that you know our story and journey, our hope is simple: Give Plants a Chance. Welcome to RSO FOR ALL.
